RFS has expanded its partnership with our C&C Universal Engineering Sdn Bhd to establish a bonded warehousing facility in Port Klang.

RFS boosts Asia Pacific supply chain with extensive warehousing facility in Port Klang

On the occasion of the CommunicAsia ICT conference & exhibition being held at the Singapore Expo, on 16-19 June 2009, wireless infrastructure specialist RFS (Radio Frequency Systems) has expanded its partnership with Malaysian distributor C&C Universal Engineering Sdn Bhd to establish a bonded warehousing facility in Port Klang.

Served by excellent road, sea and air links, the Port Klang facility will enter full commercial operation in mid-2009 and provide a central logistical hub from which RFS is ideally positioned to service its telecom customers throughout the Asia Pacific region.

The facility will be run jointly by RFS and C&C, with the latter responsible for management of the warehouse, including site kitting and reconciling of stock and deliveries, and with RFS overseeing the distribution of goods in and out of the facility, forecasting supply requirements, and subsequent shipping to countries outside of Malaysia.

RFS initially signed C&C Universal Engineering as a local distributor at the beginning of 2008, to boost its quality component logistics channel in Malaysia. With four main cellular networks operating a mix of GSM 900/1800 and 3G 2100 MHz services, Malaysia is one of the most well-served, cellular-enabled countries in Asia.

RFS has been supplying its cellular and allied wireless systems into the country for several years, and has firmly established itself as a quality supplier, with the added attraction of price-competitiveness and timely deliveries.

This positioning has been reinforced thanks to this and the partnership with C&C. C&C is now undertaking a bonded warehouse management function to ensure that RFS is optimally-positioned to meet the burgeoning demand for cellular communications infrastructure, as mobile network operators across Asia Pacific begin the transition from 2G to 3G and beyond.

"The expansion of our partnership with C&C Universal Engineering is a significant development in our supply chain and logistics capabilities and part of our concerted strategy to ensure we are best placed to serve the demands of our customers in Asia Pacific," says Tim Conboy, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, APAC South at RFS.

"Port Klang provides a substantial facility that is cost-efficient and geographically well-positioned for servicing the entire region. The warehouse will stock a range of RFS' wireless infrastructure, RF transmission distribution and radio link network solutions, and enable us to offer much shorter lead times - typically dispatching between two to three days."

Building on C&C's high quality in-country rapid response logistics and distribution, the new bonded warehousing facility will also assist RFS in supporting onwards fulfilment to other countries in the region, providing a ‘win-win' situation for all members of the cellular systems value chain.

In partnership with C&C, RFS has also been delivering skills training and knowledge transfer locally in Malaysia to meet demand for premium quality support, which is rapidly becoming the determining factor as far as carrier customer satisfaction levels are concerned.

As well as being responsible for on-site management of RFS' sophisticated range of cellular infrastructure solutions, C&C will undertake site-kitting to ensure that products are packaged and shipped according to RFS' customer requirements.

"The Port Klang warehouse will be carefully managed to suit customer needs in respect of their actual product types. There will be a substantial quantity of product stocked, including a significant amount of RF cabling, which needs a lot of space and demands expertise from a handling perspective," continues Conboy.

"The addition of local in-country skills training and our long-term approach to knowledge transfer, combined with C&C's first-rate distribution and support in Malaysia, means that RFS not only has a powerful presence locally, but is now able to offer the highest possible levels of support, deliver shorter lead times, and prepare off-the-shelf deliveries to mobile network operators throughout the entire Asia Pacific region."

RFS' specialists on hand at the CommunicAsia ICT conference & exhibition include Martyn Kemel (President, Broadcast and Defense Systems), Mick Bennett (Global Product Manager Broadcast and Defense), Tim Conboy (Vice President, Sales and Marketing for APAC South and Eric Mariette, VP Global Strategy and Marketing.
